Dear OSU Community,
Join us virtuallyFebruary 18-21, 2021 for the APS National Mentoring Community (NMC) Conference. The NMC facilitates and supports mentoring relationships between African American, Hispanic American, and Indigenous undergraduate physics students and local physics mentors. Membership in the NMC is free for both Mentors and Mentees. The meeting is organized in partnership with the National Society for Black Physicists, the National Society for Hispanic Physicists, and Oklahoma State University.
Although the target populations are Physicists, the program is designed so that it is useful to mentors (improving research mentoring relationships, supporting student mental health, helping undocumented students and students on visas, guiding students who want a non-academic career, and empathic communications) and mentees (resume writing, applying to graduate school, mental health resources, non-academic career panel, building an intersectional mentor network, student grassroots organizing, etc.) even if they are not physicists.
The NMC Conference will include:
- Plenary talks on mentoring and physics research
- Panels and workshops on mentoring best practices
- Career workshops and panels
- Undergraduate research experiences and graduate schools fair
- Networking opportunities
- And much more
Registration discounts are offered to registered NSBP/NSHP members, NMC Mentors and Mentees. Learn more about how to become a mentor or mentee here.
Registration deadline: February 12, 2021
