The Radiation Dosimetry Laboratory is seeking outstanding students to join our graduate program in pursuit of Masters or Ph. D. degrees in Physics and to become involved in basic or applied research in luminescence materials and dosimetry (check our areas of interest).
Students accepted into our program will receive a competitive assistantship throughout their studies. The Physics Department Graduate Committee also actively pursues national fellowships for outstanding individual students.
In addition to regular assistantship, exceptionally qualified applicants applying to the Physics Department will be considered for a special Arts and Sciences Doctoral Excellence Award, which provides a stipend enhancement of up to an extra $6,000 per academic year.
The Radiation Dosimetry Laboratory is also offering a Research Incentive for outstanding and selected students interested in pursuing research in OSL dosimetry. This incentive can be from $3,000 to $6,000 and is provided as part of our grant from Landauer Inc.
Other research opportunities at the Physics Department:
The Physics Department at OSU also has a variety of research interests, including Biological Physics, High Energy Physics, Nanostructures and Condensed Matter, Optics and Photonics, and Surface Sciences. For more information, visit the Physics Department webpage.

Undergraduate Summer Internship Program in Proton Therapy Research
The Physics Department at Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for a new Summer Internship Program in Proton Therapy Research for undergraduate students. The program will consist of a two-month summer research internship in the Radiation Physics Laboratory at OSU (Stillwater, OK), with visits and experiments at the ProCure Proton Therapy Center (Oklahoma City, OK). The objective is to provide undergraduate students with first hand experience in applied physics research geared towards proton therapy-a unique experience in this exciting field and radiation therapy modality.
This program is made possible by scholarships provided by ProCure Treatment Centers, Inc. ProCure recently established a Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma City, the first in the State of Oklahoma and the sixth in the country. The proton accelerator at the ProCure Therapy Center in Oklahoma City is already operational and the treatment of patients in expected to start in the summer of 2009. The undergraduates in this program will be working in projects directly related to proton cancer therapy.
This first year of the program will take place from June 1st until July 31st, 2009. Selected students will receive a scholarship of US$ 4,000 for the two-month period to cover accommodation, travel, meals, and other expenses. (We will assist in finding accommodation on the OSU campus and provide a list of expected expenses.) In this first year, only students from the State of Oklahoma and majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) areas will be considered.
For more information on the program or to apply, please contact Dr. Eric R. Benton ( eric.benton@okstate.edu, phone 405-744-2508) or Dr. Eduardo G. Yukihara ( eduardo.yukihara@okstate.edu, phone 405-744-6535). To apply, please send an application letter describing how this internship will fit into your career goals, a current transcript, and a recommendation letter from a science or mathematics faculty member at your institution to eduardo.yukihara@okstate.edu. Deadline for applications is April 15, 2009.
